I have been looking into Revit family creation in quite an advanced way over the last few months and as part of this I have been talking to lots of manufactures, some who already supply Revit families and some who don't.
I think I have stumbled upon something that Revit is currently lacking, but if implemented could not only make our (architects) life easier, but also give many manufactures no excuse not to supply Revit content.
Ok imagine this: we are creating a super duper all singing, parametric masterpiece family, let's say a rainwater downpipe or a balustrade. We create the family as usual with all types, properties, manufacturer info, keynote ref etc, however one thing we cannot currently create 'within' the family are standard details, such as fixing details, installation details etc. Currently these are created separately in the Revit project, normally on a drafting view. It's the not specific, general details i am referring to like the one shown below.

Now imagine if when creating the family we have a drafting view. In this view we can add the manufactures standard details (or they will if they supplied the family). When the family is loaded into the project, the drafting view that's within the family is also transferred and appears in the project drafting views, ready to be pasted on a sheet.
I think this solves the problem of manufactures, providing standard details (usually in CAD) and Revit families, why not combine them?.
If the factory is Reading this, please add it to 2012!. Let me know your thoughts on this below.
