Well, it’s been a frustrating 2 weeks since my last posts.
It seems that somehow TalkTalk have managed to block Blogger from my home account, which means I'm now in work on a Sunday just to get this written - not great! It’s also sparked a re-install of my router back home whilst trying to find the problem and now that’s knackered, so I'm not happy at all with TalkTalk. I may even have to ring them, which I have managed to avoid for the past 3 years...
In the world of BIM, I've been busy too. I've been to the University of Northumbria twice in the past two weeks, lecturing to their Architectural Technology students about BIM in practice - something I do each year on behalf of work to give them a perspective of the real world. The feedback I've had has been good so far, but it still amazes me how slow people are picking this all up - nice to see it’s making its way into Universities (even if it's not architects - that’s my next target!).
I also went to the Geomatics department at the University of Newcastle to meet up with a mate of mine to discuss Laser Scanners. I'm going to write a separate blog on that one, but its something that’s got me really interested right now - ask anyone who knows me, I keep boring people with it.
The last part of last week took me to a totally different environment at BSEC. This year it was a whole lot bigger and our stand was too! We spent two days speaking to people about architecture in the education sector, and I was surprisingly busy talking to lots of interested people about BIM. So much so, all of our brochures ran out, and we had to send for more. I think it went down really well and our approach to BIM was something that really seemed to catch people’s interest.
On my return to Newcastle, I managed to catch the closing party for the Reinvigorating the Region Exhibition. It was great to see such an interesting and relevant exhibition here in the North East, dedicated to celebrating great regional architecture - well done RIBA North East!
I think this blog may soon get very boring if its just my weekly diary, so look out soon for dedicated posts relating to what I get up to. I'm thinking of writing about Laser Scanning, my BIM in practice lecture content and the work I'm doing on our protocols as starters for ten - keep an eye out for them in the coming weeks and by all means drop me a comment/tweet if you want to see something else. Lets hope that TalkTalk sort themselves out to help me along...

James is a Senior Architect at _spacegroup, Director of bimstore.co.uk. As a keen BIM evangelist, my role is increasingly focussed on supporting that BIM process, and this has seen me deliver many presentations to clients, colleagues and students regarding BIM and its implementation in the UK construction industry.
