Welcome

It's funny- I'm now just about as busy as I've ever been, and everyone at work thinks I just stopped...

As my profile says, I'm an architect working for a practice in Newcastle upon Tyne in the UK.  This week has been strange for me, because for the first time in my life I've found myself not working on a building project.  That's because I'm now responsible for 'embedding BIM' into our practice, and all that it entails (which seems to be quite a lot).

I've always had more than a passing interest in IT and throughout my student days and subsequently at work, I've drifted that way rather than donning a black polo neck and wearing horn rimmed specs.  The longer I've worked professionally, the more I've come into contact with and used 3D software, and over the past 5 years at _space, that has meant BIM - in our case, Revit. By chance about 3 years ago, I found myself working with the office geek (he's a mate really!) on a project that has set a benchmark for the practice and has driven a period of intensive development that is pushing us forward into new levels of understanding and use of BIM in the UK construction industry.

I was also lucky enough to get to attend AU this year, which has further opened my eyes to a whole new world of BIM development accross the world.  So as I get to work on 'embedding BIM' into the business, I decided to start this blog to chart my progress and the things I encounter along the way.  I guess I'm hoping it will become a very useful, live resource for people looking to do similar things, and will hopefully provide some answers to problems we faced.  It's not intended to provide video tutorials and that sort of thing, but I will be pointing to other people who do that thing so well - I've already added some links that have been a great source of help and insiration to me so far, as well as a few mates and of course where I work.
